ST. LOUIS – The No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team (6-4/0-0 CCAC) was swept in its doubleheader, falling in extra-innings in both contests by the same score of 3-2, by Missouri Baptist University Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field in St. Louis, Mo. Senior infielder
Alexus Reese (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) paced the SXU offensive by collecting three RBI in the doubleheader and sophomore infielder
Kaitlyn Wright (Chicago, Ill./Marist) belted her first home run of the season in game one.
Game One:
- Reese had one hit in one official at-bat and she drew three walks.
- Wright went 1-for-3, scoring both runs for Saint Xavier, and she also walked.
- Junior infielder Abbie Carr (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) was 1-for-3 with a walk.
- Sophomore outfielder Andriana Kilias (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) finished 1-for- 3 as well.
- Senior pitcher Laila Summers (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic) went the distance (4-2), pitching 7.1 innings with 12 hits allowed, three earned runs and four strikeouts.
- Reese cracked an RBI double in the top of the 1st, scoring Wright, for an early 1-0 lead.
- The Spartans tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single.
- The scored remained tied until Wright hit a leadoff home run to start the top of the 5th.
- An infield single by MBU tied the game with two-outs in the bottom of the 7th to force extra-innings. They ended the game in the bottom of the 8th on a walk-off base hit with one out.
Game Two:
- Freshman outfielder Aubrey Wroble (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
- Reese was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Kilias also was 1-for-3.
- Junior outfielder Maddi Stahulak (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) had a pinch-hit single
- Junior Julianne Claas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Hamilton) also went the distance (2-2) after she threw 7.2 innings, giving up just six hits, three earned runs, three walks and striking out two batters.
- Missouri Baptist took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, hitting a two-out home run and they extended their lead to 2-0 with another home run in the bottom the 4th.
- Reese tied the game with a two-out, two-run single to the gap in left center in the top of the 6th.
- MBU ended the game with a two-out walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 8th.
No. 24 Saint Xavier (6-4/0-0 CCAC) is scheduled to travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. to take part in the Gulf Shore Tournament that begins on Friday, March 1. They play a split doubleheader, taking on Campbellsville University (Ky.) with first-pitch at 9:00 am and they face No. 12 University of Mobile (Ala.) at 1:30 pm.
