The Shannon Center

Saint Xavier University's Shannon Center helps SXU better serve the needs of our current students and the local community.  The Shannon Center provides users with a weight room, two gymnasiums, one racquetball court, an indoor track, a dance studio and meeting areas.

The 85,000 sq. ft. facility's main arena seats as many as 3,000 people for athletic events and special occasions such as graduation ceremonies, academic convocations and concerts.  It also serves as the home court for Saint Xavier's basketball and volleyball teams.

Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field

In the summers of 2006 and 2007, the SXU football program completed both phases of its two-part renovation project, which removed the natural grass playing field and replaced it with a more modern synthetic playing surface called FieldTurf and the addition of lights to the field. The newly renovated facility, which cost around $1.5 million to complete, was dedicated as Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field prior to Saint Xavier's 2006 season opener against Lambuth University (Tenn.).

The most recent enhancements to Deaton Field took place in June 2018, when the original turf was replaced with FieldTurf's most updated, state-of-the-art surface. The 2018 FieldTurf project followed the installation of a new running track in 2017, and construction of a new brick entranceway in 2015.

"Saint Xavier University and the Cougar athletic department will forever be indebted to the tremendous generosity of our major donors: Peg Deaton, Nick and Tony Urso, David Nance, Jason Markowicz, Chad Hansen, and Michael Prosser," said SXU head coach Mike Feminis. "Without their significant lead gifts and the contributions from nearly 150 football alums, coaches, and parents who made financial commitments to the past Reimagine Boldly campaign and current X-men Club, none of these enhancements would have been possible."

Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field

The Saint Xavier University baseball team hosts all its home games at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field located on its Chicago campus.  The field recently updated its backstop and dugouts with brick and added additional bleachers for spectators.  The dimensions for the field are 330 feet on the lines, 375 feet in the gaps and 400 feet to centerfield.

SXU Softball Field

The SXU Softball Field is located northern end of campus.  The state-of-the-art facility includes two huge dugouts, warm-up pitching areas, and excellent viewing/seating areas for fans and spectators.  Parking is directly adjacent to the field on the southern edge, while the newly constructed O'Brien Hall was built along the right field line.  This gives certain SXU students, who live in O'Brien Hall, the unique ability to watch SXU softball games from the comfort of their dorm room.
