Casas Breaks Record, No. 21 SXU Advances to CCAC Championship

Crown Point, Ind. – Redshirt sophomore infielder Jazmyn Casas (Berwyn, Ill./Illinois-Chicago/Taft) had three RBI in the bottom of the 4th, breaking the single-season program record for RBI to give her 84 on the year. She tops the previous record of 82 set by 2006 NAIA Softball Player of the Year and Saint Xavier Hall-of-Famer Colleen Kilduff (2003-06) in 2006. Casas was a part of a 12-run 4th inning as No. 21 ranked and top-seeded Saint Xavier University softball (40-12/26-1 CCAC) defeated No. 6 Indiana University South Bend 19-0 in five innings to advance to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Championship. It is the eighth consecutive CCAC Tournament Championship appearance for the Cougars, and their 26th appearance in the last 27 seasons in the championship game. SXU also reached 40 wins, only the 10th time in program history that they have won 40 or more games in season, and first since 2016 when they won 46 games enroute to an NAIA National Championship Runner-up.
  • Casas finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double.
  • Senior catcher Morgan Natanek (Palos Heights, Ill./Stagg) collected four RBI, going 2-for-4 as well.
  • Senior infielder Mallory O'Connor (Bourbonnais, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Bishop McNamara) had a team-high three hits in four at-bats with three runs, two RBI and a double.
  • Junior infielder Aubrey Wroble (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) scored three times, with two RBI, a walk and steal, finishing 2-for-2.
  • Senior outfielder Fiona Crane (Evergreen Park, Ill./Northern Illinois/Mother McAuley) swiped two bases, upping her total to 92 in 2026, with two runs scored and an RBI while going 2-for-4.
  • Senior outfielder Haley Matlock (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) was 2-for-4, scoring three runs with two RBI, a triple and a stolen base.
  • Sophomore designated player Isabelle Poortenga (Dyer, Ind./Lewis/Lake Central) also scored three runs, adding two walks and an RBI, finishing 2-for-2 at the plate.
  • Senior infielder Emily Bickett (Plainfield, Ill./South Suburban/Morton/Plainfield South) batted twice as a pinch-hitter in the 4th inning, going 1-for-2 with a two-run double and a run scored.
  • Junior outfielder Jaelyn Wiers (Morris, Ill./Bethel/Kankakee/Morris) drove in two runs with a run and a walk, despite reaching base on an error.
  • Sophomore outfielder Natalie Gomez (Oak Forest, Ill./Lewis/Tinley Park) was 2-for-2 with a run scored.
  • Sophomore pitcher Payton Antkiewicz (Dyer, Ind./Hanover Central) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst (16-4), throwing her third shutout of the year, allowing just two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
  • Saint Xavier jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. Wroble hit an RBI single, Matlock had an RBI base hit, O'Connor drove in a run on an RBI groundout and Natanek slammed a two-run single.
  • Wroble lifted a sacrifice fly to score Crane in the bottom of the 2nd.
  • Poortenga lined an RBI singe in the bottom of the 3rd to push the lead to 7-0.
  • The Cougars sent 17 batters to the plate in the bottom of the 4th. Wroble stole second and scored on an error, Casas hit an RBI single, Wiers plated two runs off an error, Bickett hammered a two-run double, Crane picked up an RBI on a groundout, Casas clubbed a two-run double, O'Connor had an RBI base hit, and Natanek capped the rally with a two-run single.
No. 21 and top-seeded Saint Xavier (40-12/26-1 CCAC) plays the winner of the No. 2 University of St. Francis vs. No. 6 Indiana South Bend contest in the CCAC Tournament Championship on Friday, May 1. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start.
