Box Score Elgin, Ill. – The No. 11 Saint Xavier University football team (7-2, 5-0 MSFA Midwest) had its highest scoring game of the season, coming away with a 52-6 victory over Judson University (Ill.) in Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League action Saturday afternoon at Millennium Field in Shorewood, Ill. Senior wide receiver Justin Pringle (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) started the game off with a bang, returning the opening kickoff 95 yards for his first career kick return for a touchdown, the Cougars rushed for a season-high 283 yards and the SXU defense limited the Eagles to just 44 rushing yards on 33 attempts to run their winning streak to seven games.
- Junior quarterback Stuart Ross (Springfield, Ill./Springfield Southeast) finished 14-for-18 for 177 yards with a touchdown and an interception, along with a rushing touchdown.
- Junior running back Amari Venerable (University Park, Ill./Crete-Monee), making his season debut, ran for 100 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown.
- Junior wide receiver Kyle Quinn (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) caught seven passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.
- Junior kicker Peyton Benes (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra point attempts, kicked a season-long 40 yards field goal and averaged 57.1 yards on nine kickoffs.
- Junior defensive back Ron Carroll (University Park, Ill./Crete-Monee) was credited with a team-best seven (three solos) tackles, a pass breakup and he blocked an extra point attempt.
- Senior linebacker Joey Markasovic (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) made six tackles (four solos) and had 2.0 tackles for loss for eight yards.
- Sophomore defensive back Bruce Pendleton III (Chicago, Ill./McKendree/Plainfield Central) posted six tackles (two solos), 1.0 tackle for loss for four yards and returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown.
- Junior defensive back Kevin Countryman (Morris, Ill./Providence Catholic) registered five tackles (three solos), 1.0 tackle for loss for two yards and had a 10-yard interception return.
- Pringle's kick return for a touchdown took just 13 seconds off the clock for a quick 7-0 lead.
- Venerable capped a nine play, 72-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown run for his first score of the season to make it 14-0 with 5:38 left in the first quarter.
- Ross found Quinn for a seven-yard touchdown pass on the next possession to extend the lead to 21-0 with 1:26 remaining in the opening frame.
- Judson got on the board with a four-yard touchdown pass at the 11:29 mark of the second period, but Carroll was credited with the blocked kick.
- Saint Xavier added 10 points just before the half when Pendleton III had a 23-yard interception returned for his first collegiate touchdown with 2:34 left in the first half and Benes drilled a 40-yard field goal with just 12 seconds left in the quarter for a 31-6 halftime lead.
- Ross scored from a yard out, his third rushing touchdown of the year, at the 9:54 mark of the third quarter to go up 38-6.
- Junior quarterback John O'Sullivan (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) scrabbled 16 yards for his first rushing touchdown of the season to make it 45-6 with 4:09 left in the period.
- Sophomore running back Jessi Plunkett (Evergreen Park, Ill./College of DuPage/Brother Rice) made the most of his lone rushing attempt of the game, going 65 yards for his first touchdown as a Cougar to cap the scoring early in the fourth quarter.
No. 11 Saint Xavier (7-2/5-0 MSFA) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field when they host St. Ambrose University on Saturday, November 5. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm kickoff.
