CHICAGO – Behind a season-high six goals, the Saint Xavier University women's soccer (6-3-3, 4-3-1 CCAC) defeated Governors State University by a score of 6-1 in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup Tuesday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. Junior midfielder/forward
Louisa Schreiber (Bonndorf, Germany/Morton/Hans-Thoma-Schule) netted a pair of goals, giving her a team-leading six on the season, and junior forward
Esmeralda Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) added two assists, giving her a team-high of four on the year, to lead the Saint Xavier offense.
- Freshman forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scored the game-winning goal and had three shot attempts on the day, along with two shots on goal in 63 minutes of playing time.
- Senior defender Ailyn Gallardo (Alsip, Ill./Governors State/Saint Xavier/Eisenhower) recorded her first collegiate goal and chipped in her first assist as a Cougar.
- Sophomore midfielder Hope Lewis (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) scored her second goal of the season in 60 minutes of action.
- Freshman forward/midfielder Citlali Chavez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) tallied her first collegiate goal in the second half and saw 65 minutes on the pitch after subbing in in the first half.
- Sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) came away with an assist and had a shot attempt in 37 minutes of playing time.
- Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made the start and had a save to improve her record to 5-2-2 in goal this year.
- Senior goalkeeper Dayanna Gonzalez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) subbed in late in the second half and made a save in her season debut.
- Schreiber gave SXU an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute off a pass from Diaz on a shot from the right side.
- The Jaguars responded a little over three minutes later in the 6th minute on a goal in front of the net set up by a corner kick.
- Jonaitis tallied her fifth goal of the year in the 12th minute after she took a pass from Diaz, raced down the near sideline and lofted a shot over the goalkeeper that crossed the line as a GSU defender tried to make the save.
- Schreiner added her second goal of the match in the 34th minute on an assist from Davila.
- Gallardo sent in a clearing shot from 45 yards out with :04 left on the clock in the 45th minute to send Saint Xavier into the locker room with a 4-1 advantage.
- Lewis posted a goal in the 58th minute after she intercepted a pass and had her shot redirected off the goal post and into the back of the net.
- Chavez headed in her first career goal off a free kick by Gallardo in the 74th minute to cap the scoring.
Saint Xavier (6-3-3/4-3-1 CCAC) travels to South Bend, Ind. to take on Indiana University South Bend in a CCAC contest on Saturday, October 21. The match is scheduled for an 11:00 am central first kick.
