Davenport, Iowa – The No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (8-4-5/5-3-3 CCAC) saw its 2023 season come to an end after a 4-1 setback to No. 1 St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Semifinals Tuesday evening in Davenport, Iowa. Louisa Schreiber (Bonndorf, Germany/Morton/Hans-Thoma-Schule) tallied the lone goal for the Cougars for her 10
th of the season. She reached a milestone, becoming the first SXU player to score 10 or more goals in a season since former standout Morgan Graves (2011-14) netted 11 goals as a freshman in 2011. Schreiber is just the 13
th player in program history to record 10 or more goals in a year and it was the 23
rd time overall.
- Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made a career-high eight saves for Saint Xavier and finishes her freshman campaign with a record of 6-3-4 with 55 saves.
- Freshman forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and Schreiber each had a shot on goal and they both played the full 90 minutes, respectively.
- Schreiber broke a scoreless tie in the 39th minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
- The Fighting Bees evened the match two minutes later in the 41st minute.
- SAU held a 13-1 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes and outshot SXU by a 20-2 margin overall.
- Saint Ambrose scored in the 52nd minute to go ahead. They added goals in the 56th and 75th minutes to pull away and advance to the CCAC Tournament Championship on Friday, November 10.
No. 5 seed Saint Xavier (8-4-5/5-3-3 CCAC) finishes the 2023 season and will return to the pitch in August of 2024.
