CHICAGO – Chris Gbur from the Saint Xavier University athletics department was named the 2022-23 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Sports Information Director (SID) of the Year when the award was announced by the conference Wednesday morning. He was selected by his peers from the 14-member conference. Gbur has been with SXU since interning at the Shannon Center in 2008 and served as a volunteer assistant sports information director from 2008-2020 before taking over the full-time position during the 2020-21 school year.
Gbur maintains the university's athletic website (sxucougars.com) by posting press releases, player/coach rosters and bios, team schedules, box scores and team stats. He also runs the department's social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as setting up the video and streaming equipment for broadcasts on the department's YouTube channel. Gbur recently updated the website and oversaw the redesign that launched in April of 2023. He also stats all home games for baseball, football, men's and women's soccer, softball and men's and women's volleyball.
Saint Xavier Interim Athletics Director Ken Alston: "To be selected and respected by your peers is an amazing honor. Sports information is a thankless job with long, late hours and Chris has done an amazing job for our department. He has a wealth of institutional athletic knowledge, and we are blessed and humbled to have him as an integral member of our athletic staff."
Football head coach Mike Feminis: "Chris is a tireless worker who has been a one-man show in covering our program's 19 sports teams since taking on the position. Our athletes and coaches are extremely fortunate to have an individual like Chris working in the department."
