Aguilera Records Hat Trick in 9-1 Win for SXU over CCSJ

CHICAGO – Junior midfielder Jaedan Aguilera (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) registered a Hat Trick for the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (5-3-4, 3-2 CCAC) on a record-setting afternoon in a 9-1 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. It was the second career three-goal game for Aguilera and is the first Cougar to score three goals in a match since September 29, 2021, when he did so, also against CCSJ. The nine-goal output by SXU was the most program history, with results going back to the 1997 season. The previous high was eight, set against the Crimson Wave in an 8-1 win on October 18, 2006.
  • Junior forward Pablo Guerrero (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) scored a brace and added two assists. Both he and Aguilera finished the match with six points, the most since Aguilera had seven points against Calumet on September 29, 2021 (three goals, one assist).
  • Sophomore midfielder Omar Aparicio (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep) scored a goal and added an assist for SXU.
  • Freshman midfielder Irving Moreno (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) chipped in a pair of assists.
  • Graduate student goalkeeper Andres Zamora (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) came away with the win, departing the game with a 1-0 lead, to move his season record to 4-3-2.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Osvaldo Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./Sarah-Goode) logged 80 minutes in net and had a save.
  • Junior midfielder/defender Valente Lara Jr. (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) scored his first goal of the season in the 9th minute, lofting a shot past the goalkeeper, after receiving a pass from Aparicio.
  • Junior defender/midfielder Aldo Lagunas (Midlothian, Ill./Moraine Valley/Bremen) headed in his first goal for Saint Xavier in the 27th minute, set up by a corner kick from senior midfielder Andy Lomeli (Dyer, Ind./Roosevelt/Valparaiso/Lake Central), who passed the ball to senior midfielder Fernando Barragan (Burbank, Ill./Moraine Valley/Reavis), who then found Lagunas in front of the goal.
  • Just over a minute later in the 27th minute, the Crimson Wave scored on a shot from just inside midfield on the far sideline.
  • Aguilera netted is first goal in the 30th minute on a free kick from 35 yards out. He added his second goal just 30 seconds later in the 31st minute, sending a low line drive into the lower right corner of the net from 25 yards out. He capped the scoring in the 1st half by converting on a penalty kick in the 41st minute.
  • Guerrero tallied his second goal of the season off an assist from freshman midfielder Eduardo Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./UIC College Prep) in the 58th minute.
  • Aparicio recorded his second goal of the year just over three minutes later in the 61st minute on a pass from Guerrero.
  • Guerrero netted his second tally of the match, and third of the season, in the 76th minute on an assist from Moreno.
  • Junior defender Elvis Rodriguez (Morton Grove, Ill./Oakton/Niles West) registered his first goal as a Cougar off a setup from Moreno in the 86th minute.
Saint Xavier (5-3-4/3-2 CCAC) returns to action on Saturday, October 7 when the travel to Joliet, Ill. to take on University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a CCAC contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
