SXU Men’s Basketball Stays Hot in 115-79 Triumph over Judson

Elgin, Ill. – Eight players scored in double figures, led by a double-double from senior forward Andre Brandon (Coralville, Iowa/Sauk Valley/Liberty), as the Saint Xavier University men's basketball (5-1, 2-0 CCAC) defeated Judson University (Ill.), 115-79, in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Tuesday evening at the Lindner Center in Elgin, Ill. Brandon finished with a team-best 20 points and he pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the young season, along with four steals, an assist and a block. It was the third time that the Cougars have scored 100 or more points to start the season, something has hasn't been done by SXU since the 1971-72 season when they score 100 or more points in three of their first four contests.

Saint Xavier also tied the single-game program record for three-point field goals made, draining 20 on 45 attempts (44.4 percent) with 10 players making at least one three-pointer, they sank 20 threes earlier this season in 117-100 victory over Indiana University Columbus on November 11. The 115-point effort was the seventh-highest scoring game in program history and their 20 steals tied for the seventh-most in single-game history.
  • Junior guard Mekhi Wilson (Covington, Ky./Iowa Central/Covington Catholic) made four of his five three-point attempts and he was 4-for-6 from the field overall with 14 points and two steals.
  • Junior guard Deontre Warren (Champaign, Ill./Daley/Olive Harvey/Champaign Centennial) scored a season-high 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting. He also had three rebounds, an assist and a steal in 11 minutes off the bench.
  • Senior guard Jordan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northwood/Wilmington/East Kentwood) recorded 13 points, five assists, two steals and a rebound.
  • Senior forward Kevin Bishop (Cleveland, Ohio/Pikeville/Parkland/Cleveland Benedictine) posted 11 points with eight rebounds and a season-best three blocked shots.
  • Junior guard Ashton Atwater (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Valley/Ostego) tallied 11 points as well as two assists, two rebounds, two steals and a block.
  • Junior guard DJ Shelton (Chicago, Ill./Calumet St. Joseph/UTTC/Thornridge) registered a season-high 11 points while going 4-for-4 from the field. He also had four rebounds, an assist and a steal in 12 minutes off the bench.
  • Fifth-year senior guard Julian Barr (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Land/Lincoln-Way East) collected 10 points, a season-best four steals and three assists.
  • Senior guard Sando Hill (Vanoss, Okla./Lyon/Seminole State/Vanoss) chipped in seven points, a season-high five assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Saint Xavier (5-1, 2-0 CCAC) participates in the St. Francis Thanksgiving Classic that begins on Friday, November 30 in Joliet, Ill. when they take on Hastings College (Neb.) at 8:00 pm at the Sullivan Center.
