Jackson nets 22; Saint Xavier Clipped by Trinity Christian, 94-92

CHICAGO – Senior guard Jordan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northwood/Wilmington/East Kentwood) recorded a team-high 22 points on 9-for-17 shooting, however the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (7-3, 3-1 CCAC) lost to Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Jackson has now scored 20 more points in consecutive games for the second time this season, while adding four rebounds, three assists and two steals. The Trolls outshot the Cougars from the floor, 52.3 percent (34-for-65) to 48.0 percent (36-for-75.

TCC jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in the opening minutes after a fast-break three and they built a 13-point advantage, 33-20, at the 7:39 mark for their largest lead of the game. SXU chipped away over the next five minutes, using a 19-6 run, to tie the game at 39-39 after Jackson pulled down a rebound and raced down the floor for a lay-up. Jackson made another basket with 24 seconds remaining in the half before Trinity Christian made a running lay-up as the clock expired to hold a 47-45 lead at halftime. The Cougars led for most of the second half and carried their largest lead of the game, 80-69, after senior forward Kevin Bishop (Cleveland, Ohio/Pikeville/Parkland/Cleveland Benedictine) made a pair of free throws.

The Trolls rallied back and went up 91-90 with just over a minute left in regulation on a lay-up with 1:12 to go. Senior forward Andre Brandon (Coralville, Iowa/Sauk Valley/Liberty) drove the lane to put SXU back up on the next possession, however a pair of turnovers allowed TCC to make three of four foul shots in the final seconds to come away with the win.
  • Bishop finished with 20 points and he did not miss a shot on the afternoon, going 8-for-8 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line. He tied the program single-game record for most shots made without a miss (min. eight attempts) previously done five other times, most recently by Keating Rombach (2016-17) also against Trinity Christian on December 10, 2016. Bishop also had a pair of rebounds, an assist and a steal.
  • Junior guard Ashton Atwater (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Valley/Ostego) posted 12 points, a season-high five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
  • Brandon came away with his team-leading fifth double-double of the season with 16 rebounds and 10 points. He also tied his season-best with four steals, along with an assist and a blocked shot.
  • Junior forward Davion Lawrence (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley/Oak Lawn Community) registered seven points, five rebounds and an assist in 11 minutes off the bench.
  • Fifth-year senior guard Julian Barr (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Land/Lincoln-Way East) pulled down a season-best six rebounds with six points and a pair of assists.
Saint Xavier (7-3, 3-1 CCAC) makes the short trip to Gary, Ind. to play Indiana University Northwest on Saturday, December 21. The game is set for a 3:00 pm start.
