SXU Women’s Basketball Tripped Up by Grace, 74-67

CHICAGO – Graduate student guard/forward Ryann Ogarek (Joliet, Ill./Benedictine/Lewis/Providence Catholic) scored a game-high 19 points and was 5-for-9 from three-point range, however the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (8-5, 4-1 CCAC) ended their non-conference slate with a 74-67 loss to Grace College (Ind.) Sunday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Ogarek finished with a team-best trying seven rebounds, an assist and a steal in 31 minutes of action. Free throws proved the difference as the Lancers were 16-for-26 from the foul line while the Cougars went 5-for-6 with SXU committing 22 fouls to GC's nine.
  • Freshman forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) tallied 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting (54.5 percent), along with seven rebounds and a season-high three assists.
  • Junior center Eleanor Harris (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) was solid off the bench as she collected 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in 25 minutes on the floor.
  • Freshman guard Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) recorded eight points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist in 21 minutes off the bench.
  • Senior forward Sofie Carr (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) posted six points, four rebounds (all offensive) and an assist.
  • Senior guard Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) dished out a game-high six assists, while adding five rebounds, three points and her first block of the season.
  • Senior center Alyssa Crenshaw (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) came away with six rebounds, five points, two assists and a steal.
  • Junior guard Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) added four points, three assists and two rebounds, while junior guard Lia Chudzik (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) registered a pair of steals.
Saint Xavier (8-5/4-1 CCAC) hosts Indiana University South Bend in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action at the Shannon Center on Wednesday, January 8. The game is set for a 5:00 pm tip-off.
