CHICAGO – Junior outside hitter
Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) recorded a match-high 16 kills on a stellar .545 attack percentage (16-4-22) as the No. 10 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (12-8/7-0 CCAC) came away with a three-set victory ( 25-14, 25-19, 25-19) over Roosevelt University (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Both teams were originally scheduled to compete in a tri-match with Lawrence Tech University (Mich.), however heavy snow fall in Michigan made travel difficult for the Blue Devils. Pennala added three digs, two service aces and a block to help SXU run its winning streak to six matches.
- Freshman setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) tallied a match-best 24 assists with five digs, three aces and a pair of blocks.
- Sophomore libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) posted a match-high 10 digs and he added three assists.
- Junior outside hitter Kegan Olig (Fond du Loc, Wis./Fond du Loc) registered six kills, two blocks (one solo) and a dig.
- Senior middle blocker Jake McClain (Homer Glen, Ill./Marist) recorded five kills, a block, a dig and a service ace.
- Junior outside hitter Sean Carey (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) collected four digs, two kills and an ace.
- Fifth-year senior setter Christian Oviedo (Brea, Calif./Concordia-Irvine/Servite) handed out eight assists and he had three digs.
- Senior middle blocker John Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) had three blocks, along with three kills.
- Fifth-year senior middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and junior middle blocker Alessandro Gianotti (Desio, Italy/Brigham Young/Leonardo Da Vinci) each tallied three kills on four attempts, and Ehlers added a block.
No. 10 Saint Xavier (12-8/7-0 CCAC) travels to Sylvania, Ohio to take on No. 13 Lourdes University (Ohio) on Tuesday, March 26. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm central first serve.
