Waleska, Ga. – The No. 20 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team (10-8/0-0 CCAC) concluded its Spring Break trip with a pair of defeats to No. 25 Reinhardt University (Ga.) Thursday afternoon in Waleska, Ga. The Cougars lost to the host Eagles in game one of their doubleheader by a 4-1 decision as sophomore infielder
Kaitlyn Wright (Chicago, Ill./Marist) had an RBI single. SXU lost the second game of the twin-bill by a 3-0 mark and they were limited to just two base hits.
Game One:
- Wright finished 1-for-3 and drove in her 11th RBI of the season.
- Junior catcher Lindsay Morgan (Huntley, Ill./Keiser/Huntley) doubled and was 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Sophomore outfielder Haley Matlock (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) had a hit in three at-bats and swiped her first stolen base on the year.
- Freshman infielder Aubrey Wroble (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) scored a run and was hit-by-pitch while going 0-for-1.
- Senior pitcher Laila Summers (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic) logged her ninth complete game of the season (7-4) after tossing 6.0 innings with 12 hits allowed, four runs (all earned), two walks and three strikeouts.
- Wright opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd by slicing an RBI single to right field.
- RU responded in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game with a home run and taking the lead on an RBI base hit.
- Reinhardt added an RBI double in the bottom of the 4th and an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th.
Game Two:
- Senior infielder Alexus Reese (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) had one hit in three trips to the plate.
- Matlock also finished 1-for-3 and she added her second steal of the season.
- Junior Julianne Claas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Hamilton) went the distance for the sixth time (3-4), giving up just seven hits over 6.0 innings with three earned runs, three walks and a strikeout.
- Reinhardt scored twice in the bottom of the 3rd off an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. They hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 4th to cap the scoring.
No. 20 Saint Xavier (10-8/0-0 CCAC) returns to action on Sunday, March 17 when they host Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) in a doubleheader for their 2024 home opener on the new refurbished SXU Softball Field that now has an artificial playing surface. Game one of the match-up is scheduled for a 12:00 pm first pitch.
