CHICAGO – Senior guard
Jordan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northwood/Wilmington/East Kentwood) poured in a season-high 28 points on 9-for-16 shooting and he was 9-for-12 from the foul line to help lead the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (12-4, 7-1 CCAC) to an 87-74 triumph over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. It's the sixth time this season, and the third time in the last four games, that Jackson has scored 20 or more points in a game, and he leads the Cougars through 16 games with 15.9 points per game (ppg). He also came away with a season-high four steals, along with three rebounds and a pair of assists. As a team, SXU grabbed a season-best 49 rebounds, their eighth game with 40 or more rebounds in 2024-25, and they tied their season-high with 34 defensive boards.
Saint Xavier opened the game with three by junior guard
Ashton Atwater (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Valley/Ostego) and they held a 10-4 advantage at the 15:52 mark. The Crimson Wave used a 16-9 run to go up 20-19 at the media timeout with 9:59 left in the half. Atwater hit another trey one possession later to put the Cougars up 23-20, however CCSJ evened the game at 25-25 on a three-pointer with 7:06 remaining in the half. From there, SXU would go on an 18-4 run and they carried a 45-31 lead into the locker room. Saint Xavier maintained a three-possession lead throughout the second half to improve to 7-1 in conference play.
- Junior guard Mekhi Wilson (Covington, Ky./Iowa Central/Covington Catholic) posted 15 points, two rebounds, a blocked shot and a steal in 19 minutes off the bench.
- Atwater finished the game with 10 points and three rebounds.
- Senior guard Sando Hill (Vanoss, Okla./Lyon/Seminole State/Vanoss) hauled in a season-high 10 rebounds with a game-high tying four assists, four points and a steal.
- Senior forward Kevin Bishop (Cleveland, Ohio/Pikeville/Parkland/Cleveland Benedictine) grabbed eight rebounds, while adding six points and he tied his season-best with three blocked shots.
- Sophomore forward Marko Tojagic (Belgrade, Serbia/Saint Andrews) recorded six points, a season-high five rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.
- Junior forward Davion Lawrence (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley/Oak Lawn Community) pulled down eight rebounds, with five points, two assists and a blocked shot.
Saint Xavier (12-4, 7-1 CCAC) travels to Joliet, Ill. to take on University of St. Francis (Ill.) for the top spot in the CCAC on Wednesday, January 15. The game is set for a 7:00 pm start.
