Mark Vitaliy Hul (Ternopil, Ukraine/Moraine Valley/TSSH No. 29) recorded a goal in his second straight match to help lead Saint Xavier University men's soccer (11-3-2, 6-1-1 CCAC) to a 2-0 triumph over University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Wednesday evening at Joliet Memorial Stadium in Joliet, Ill. Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) logged two saves to earn his seventh shutout of the season, and he improved his record to 9-2-2 in net. Overall, the Cougars outshot the Fighting Saints by a 26-8 margin. With the shutout, SXU establishes a new program record for consecutive shutouts with six, surpassing the previous mark of five set in 2009 and equaled last season, with records going back to 1997.
- Redshirt sophomore midfielder Saul Lagunas (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) tallied three shot attempts and two shots on goal in 80 minutes of play.
- Junior forward Irving Moreno (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) also had three shot attempts with one shot on goal in 27 minutes off the bench.
- Saint Xavier kept the ball in the offensive zone for most of the first half, collecting 13 shot attempts to USF's one.
- In the 50th minute, Aguilera fired a shot from 10 yards out for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
- Martinez made a save in the 58th minute and another in the 78th minute to keep St. Francis off the scoreboard.
- Hul added an insurance goal in the 89th minute after he intercepted a pass to come away with his sixth goal of 2025.
Saint Xavier (11-3-2/6-1-1 CCAC) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field to host Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in a key CCAC contest on Tuesday, October 28. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
