Chris Swayne (LaSalle, Ill./LaSalle-Peru Township) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Defensive Player of the Week for the Saint Xavier University football team (3-2, 0-0 MSFA Midwest) when the awards were announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Swayne posted a career-high 18 tackles (nine solos) to help lead the Cougars to a 42-17 victory over Defiance College (Ohio) Saturday afternoon in Defiance, Ohio. It is the third time in his career that he has won the award, having done so on October 9, 2023, and October 14, 2024. It is also the third consecutive week that SXU has had the MSFA Midwest League Defensive Player of the week.
- Swayne added three quarterback hurries, a sack for seven yards, an interception and a forced fumble.
- Through five games this season, he is second on the team with 52 tackles (22 solos), along with 3.5 tackles for loss for 17 yards, 3.0 sacks for 16 yards, three quarterback hurries, an interception, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
- In the MSFA, Swayne is No. 2 in total tackles, No. 3 in tackles per game at 10.4 and tied for No. 7 in sacks. Nationally, he is tied for No. 7 in assisted tackles with 30, No. 8 in total tackles and No. 10 in tackles per game.
Saint Xavier (3-2/0-0 MSFA Midwest) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field to host Siena Heights University (Mich.) on Homecoming on Saturday, October 11. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 kickoff in Chicago, Ill.
