CHICAGO – Sophomore middle blocker
Carrington Smith (Flossmoor, Ill./Marian Catholic) finished with a game-high 10 kills, a career-best six service aces, two digs and a block to help guide Saint Xavier University women's volleyball (10-4, 8-1 CCAC) to a 3-0 triumph over Calumet College of St. Joseph (25-15, 25-16, 25-19) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Tuesday evening on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. The win was the ninth in a row for the Cougars, and it was the fifth time this season that SXU came away with 10 or more aces in a match. For Smith, it was the fourth consecutive match that she had 10 or more kills, and the fifth time overall in 2025.
- Senior setter Samantha Hovey (Mackinaw, Ill./Heartland/Dee-Mack) collected a match leading 19 assists, along with eight digs, five kills and a service ace.
- Fifth year senior libero Avanna Martinez (Coamo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Ponceno) scooped up a team-high 13 digs while adding four assists and an ace.
- Junior setter Abbey Opilka (Dyer, Ind./Hanover Central) came away with 10 assists and three digs.
- Senior outside hitter Jenny Jensen (Orland Park, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/Sandburg) tallied five kills and a dig.
- Sophomore middle blocker Delaney Panozzo (Grant Park, Ill./Grant Park) posted four kills, three blocks (two solos) and a dig.
- Senior outside hitter Tara Glynn (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) and senior middle blocker Nicole Grochola (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) each had four kills, respectively.
- Graduate student defensive specialist Katie DeHaan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) had six digs and three service aces.
- Senior defensive specialist Ariel Hoskin (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) recorded five digs and an assist, while sophomore libero/defensive specialist Taylor Vann (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness Catholic) chipped in four digs in the win.
Saint Xavier (10-4/8-1 CCAC) takes on No. 16 Viterbo University (Wis.) in a CCAC match on Friday, October 10 at the Shannon Center. The contest is slated for a 7:00 pm first serve in Chicago, Ill.
