CHICAGO – The No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (10-5-4, 8-1-3 CCAC) lost to No. 3 St. Ambrose University (Iowa) by a 2-1 score in the 104
th minute of double overtime in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Semifinals Friday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. Senior midfielder
Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) recorded her team-leading ninth goal of the season as the Cougars fell to the Fighting Bees in the semifinals for the second time in the last three seasons. Davila finished the match with four shot attempts and three shots on goal while playing all 104 minutes.
- Graduate student forward Maddie Manzke (Orland Park, Ill./Keiser/Webber International/Warner/Sandburg) collected three shot attempts and two shots on goal while playing the full time.
- Freshman midfielder Paige Swaw (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) had three shot attempts as well with one shot on goal in 100 minutes.
- Junior forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) added two shot attempts and one shot on goal in 104 minutes of action.
- Junior goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made three saves for SXU while in goal.
- Davila intercepted a pass and fired a shot into the goal in the 20th minute to put Saint Xavier up 1-0.
- SAU netted the equalizer in the 63rd minute.
- In the first overtime period, Jonaitis had a shot saved in the 92nd minute. Swaw had a good look, with her shot saved in the 97th minute of play.
- St. Ambrose tallied the winning goal in the 104th minute to advance to the CCAC Tournament Championship.
Saint Xavier (10-5-4/8-1-2 CCAC) awaits to find out if they grab an at-large bid for the 40-team NAIA National Championship First & Second Round. The selections will be announced on Friday, November 14 at 6:00 pm by the national office in Kansas City, Mo.
