No. 2 Saint Xavier Sweeps Viterbo Tri-Match

La Crosse, Wis. – The No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (11-0/2-0 CCAC) extended its winning streak to 11 consecutive matches after a pair of victories at the Viterbo University Tri-Match Saturday afternoon in La Crosse, Wis. The Cougars bested the host V-Hawks in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-19) in their first match. Redshirt senior outside hitter Vejas Cuplinskas (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) posted a season-high 13 kills in the win. In the afternoon contest, SXU topped University of Jamestown (N.D.) in three sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-13) as sophomore setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) recorded his second double-double of the season, handing out 33 assists and coming away with 10 digs. With the pair of wins, the 2025 squad sets a new program record for consecutive victories to begin a season, besting the previous mark of 9-0 by the 2021 team.

Match One:
  • Cuplinskas was efficient at the net, recording a .458 attack percentage (13-2-24). He also had two blocks, service aces, an assist and a dig.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Caydann Cox (Jamestown, N.D./Jamestown/Jamestown) was tough as well, posting 12 kills on a .423 attack percentage (12-1-26). He added four digs, two blocks, an ace and an assist.
  • Senior outside hitter Kegan Olig (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) tallied a season-high 10 kills on a .444 attack percentage (10-2-18), along with a block and a dig.
  • Daniels dished out a match-best 34 assists. He also had six digs, two kills, a block and a service ace.
  • Junior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) registered a match-leading 11 digs, as well as a match-high three aces and three assists.
  • Sophomore middle blocker Camden Steckler (Manteca, Calif./Jamestown/Manteca) tied his season-high with five kills on five attempts. He also recorded a season-best five blocks.
  • Senior opposite hitter/setter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) had five kills and an assist.
Match Two:
  • Daniels added three blocks (one solo) and two kills.
  • Pennala came away with a match-high tying 13 kills, along with seven blocks (one solo), three digs and a pair of assists.
  • Cox had 13 kills as well. He added six digs, two aces and an assist.
  • Cuplinskas posted seven kills, six blocks, an assist, a dig and a service ace.
  • Steckler recorded four blocks, four kills and a dig.
  • Graduate student middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) collected four blocks, an ace and a kill.
  • Velez scooped up seven digs with three assists.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (11-0/2-0 CCAC) returns to the Shannon Center to play Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a CCAC match on Monday, February 24. The match is set for a 7:00 pm start.
