CHICAGO – Sophomore outside hitter
Caydann Cox (Jamestown, N.D./Jamestown/Jamestown) posted a season-high tying 13 kills on a stellar .600 attack percentage (13-1-20) to help lead the No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (6-0/0-0 CCAC) to a three-set victory (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) over No. 11 Missouri Baptist University Friday evening on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Cox added two digs, two service aces and a solo block. The Cougars recorded a season-best .443 attack percentage (44-9-79) and run their winning streak to six in a row, tied for the second-best start to a season along with the 2020 squad (6-0).
- Junior opposite hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Now Sacz, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszow) also was strong at the net, collecting 10 kills on a .529 attack percentage (10-1-17). He also had two aces and two solo blocks.
- Senior opposite hitter/setter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) had 10 kills as well, along with six digs, two assists, two blocks and a service ace.
- Sophomore setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) totaled a season-high 32 assists with five digs and a kill.
- Junior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) was tough defensively, coming away with a match-best 15 digs, his fourth match with 10 or more digs so far this season. He also had four assists and his first kill of the year.
- Graduate student middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) tallied four kills, two blocks (one solo) and an assist.
- Redshirt senior outside hitter Vejas Cuplinskas (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) also had four kills for SXU while freshman middle blocker Kyle Petrusch (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) added three blocks (two solos) and a kill.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (6-0/0-0 CCAC) begins Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Tuesday, February11 when they take on Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at the Shannon Center. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm first serve.
