No. 2 Saint Xavier Tops Calumet St. Joseph in CCAC Match, 3-0

Whiting, Ind. – No. 2 Saint Xavier University men's volleyball (17-0/7-0 CCAC) extended its winning streak to 17 after a three-set triumph (25-8, 25-12, 25-12) over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Wednesday evening at the Rittenmeyer Center in Whiting, Ind. Sophomore outside hitter Caydann Cox (Jamestown, N.D./Jamestown/Jamestown) led the Cougars with a match-best 11 kills on an impressive .526 attack percentage (11-1-19), along with four digs and two service aces. SXU came away with 13 aces, the fifth time in seven CCAC matches that they have had 10 or more service aces in a match, and sixth time overall this season. The win ties the program record for consecutive victories, a mark set last season when Saint Xavier went undefeated for 17 straight matches from March 8 until May 2.
  • Senior opposite hitter/setter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) recorded seven kills, three aces, three digs and a pair of assists.
  • Sophomore setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) collected a match-leading 18 assists. He added six digs, tied for the match-high, a block, a kill and a service ace.
  • Graduate student middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) did a bit of everything, registering four kills on four attempts, three aces, three assists, two blocks (one solo) and two digs.
  • Junior opposite hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Now Sacz, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszow) finished the match with three kills, two assists, two service aces and a block.
  • Sophomore middle blocker Camden Steckler (Manteca, Calif./Jamestown/Manteca) added three kills and two blocks (one solo).
  • Junior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) posted six digs, two assists and he recorded his second kill of the season.
  • Sophomore setter Aaron Amawan (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) established a new career-high with two aces.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (17-0/7-0 CCAC) continues its sojourn as the Cougars travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to play No. 10 Cornerstone University (Mich.) on Saturday, March 22. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm central.
