SXU Esports Places Five on All-GLEC, Ends Season at GLEC Tournament

South Bend, Ind. – The Saint Xavier University Esports team wrapped up the 2024-25 season after competing in the Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC) Tournament this past weekend in South Bend, Ind. The Cougars landed five players on various All-GLEC Teams as well as earning the 2024-25 GLEC Most Improve Program distinction.

The No. 2 seeded Rocket League (RL) squad advanced to the third-place match after defeating No. 7 Ohio Northern University in the quarterfinals by a 4-2 score in the double-elimination tournament. They lost to No. 3 Indiana Tech in the semifinals by a 4-1 decision. In the third-place match, SXU fell to No. 4 University of Mount Union (Minn.) 4-1, to come away with a fourth-place finish.

The No. 4 seeded Overwatch 2 team lost in the quarterfinals to No. 5 Tiffin University (Ohio), three games to two in the best-of-five matchup. They eliminated No. 9 Shawnee State University (Ohio) in a 3-0 sweep to advance to the fifth-place match. Saint Xavier was defeated by No. 6 Ohio Northern in a close contest, 3-2.

Earning a spot on the Fall 2024 All-Valorant Team was senior Sebastian 'szbui' Szbua (Justice, Ill./Moraine Valley/Argo Community), who earned Second Team recognition. Freshman Leo 'SnipeZ' Mendoza (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) garnered All-Super Smash Bros. Ultimate honors.

For the 2025 Spring season, sophomore Nicolas 'Telmjcan' Tellez (Alsip, Ill./Eisenhower) claimed First Team All-Overwatch 2, while senior Timothy 'Timbo' Novak (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) came away with All-Overwatch 2 Second Team recognition. Junior Marcos 'Toast' (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) also earned All-Rocket League First Team for the Cougars.
