Aguilera’s PK Guides Saint Xavier Past Roosevelt, 2-1

CHICAGO – Redshirt senior forward Jaedan Aguilera (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute that proved to be the game-winning score as Saint Xavier University men's (4-2, 0-0 CCAC) defeated NCAA Division II Roosevelt University (Ill.) Saturday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. A foul inside the 18-yard box set up the penalty kick attempt. For Aguilera, it was his third goal of the season and second consecutive game-winning goal after he netted the winning tally Tuesday evening at Deaton Field in a 2-1 triumph over Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.). It was also his third career penalty kick conversion. Aguilera is now tied for the career record for game-winning goals for the Cougars, since 2008, with 11 along with former standout Al Palar (2008-11).
  • Aguilera finished the match with three shots on goal on three attempts in 65 minutes of play.
  • Fifth year senior midfielder Saul Camacho (Summit, Ill./Elmhurst/St. Laurence) scored his first goal of the season, collecting three shots with two shots on goal in 56 minutes on the pitch.
  • Junior forward Irving Moreno (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) had two shots on goal on two attempts, along with an assist in 48 minutes off the bench.
  • Redshirt junior goalkeeper Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) was solid in goal, making a season-high seven saves.
  • The Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on a breakaway from the right side. The RU midfielder laced a shot from 25-yards out into the lower left corner.
  • In the 37th of action, Moreno dribbled in from the left side of the net and passed the ball to Camacho, who found the back of the net from 10 yard out, straight on.
  • SXU had a penalty kick earlier in the second half in the 50th minute, however the Roosevelt goalkeeper made a diving safe to keep the match tied at 1-1.
  • Saint Xavier controlled the pace leading up to Aguilera's goal as they had a shot go high and another hit the post before the foul in the box was committed.
  • The Lakers had opportunities in the 80th and 84th minutes, yet Martinez was able to stop both shots. One more shot attempt by RU in the final minute was made, and Martinez was able to turn the shot away.
Saint Xavier (4-2/0-0 CCAC) plays another NCAA Division II opponent at Deaton Field when they face Purdue University Northwest (Ind.) on Tuesday, September 16. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start in Chicago, Ill.
