Two plays later D'Ambrosio found Hatcher for a 50-yard pass, who was tackled at the one-yard line. Lee scored on the next play to tie the game with 9:53 to go in the opening period.
- The SXU defense forced a three-and-out, however they were pinned down at their own three-yard line after the LTU punt rolled out of bounds. Saint Xavier had two big rushing plays, Lee's 46-yard run and Gist Jr's 28-yard touchdown run, on the eight-play 97-yard drive to go up 14-7 with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter.
