SXU Women’s Basketball Falls to Holy Cross, 43-39

Notre Dame, Ind. – The Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (12-6, 8-2 CCAC) dropped a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road contest to Holy Cross College (Ind,), 43-39, Wednesday evening at McKenna Arena in Notre Dame, Ind. It was a defensive battle as both teams shot below 30.0 percent from the field, with HCC shooting 26.4 percent (14-for-53) and SXU going 23.2 percent (13-for-56) from the floor. The Saints had an edge at the foul line, making 80.0 percent (12-for-15) of their attempts to the Cougars 56.3 percent (9-for-16). Freshman guard Brooklynn Johnson (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) led Saint Xavier in scoring with 12 points, along with six rebounds, two steals and an assist in 35 minutes of action. It is just the second loss for SXU in conference play this season.
  • Senior guard Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) recorded 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist while playing 37 minutes.
  • Sophomore forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) came away with eight points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal in 29 minutes of play.
  • Freshman forward Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while adding four points, three steals and a blocked shot after playing all 40 minutes.
  • Sophomore guard Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) added three steals, a point and a rebound in 11 minutes off the bench.
Saint Xavier (12-6/8-2 CCAC) returns to the Shannon Center to play St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in CCAC action on Saturday, January 17. The game is set for a 1:00 pm start on Bob Hallberg Court.
