CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (6-11, 4-6 CCAC) lost to Governors State University (Ill.), 81-67) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Junior guard James Morgan (Chicago, Ill./South Suburban/Lincoln Land/East Chicago Central) led the Cougars with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting while adding two assists and a rebound in 15 minutes off the bench. It was his sixth game with 10 or more points this year, and he is the team leader in three-point shooting at 53.8 percent (21-for-39) after making two of his three attempts on the afternoon.

SXU took an early 6-2 lead to start the game, however the Jaguars used a 12-1 run in just two minutes to go up 14-7 at the 13:17 mark. GSU led 22-14 midway through the half, but Saint Xavier rallied to tie the game at 32-32 when senior forward Grant Martin (Ridgecrest, Calif./Cal State-Long Beach/Citrus/Burroughs) converted a layup off of a pass from Morgan with 4:55 left in the frame. Governors State would close the half on a 16-4 run to carry a 48-36 lead at the break. The Jaguars maintained a double-digit advantage the remainder of the contest to secure the win.

• Senior guard Ike Nwaobi (York/Kilgore/Costal Bend/Westbrook) made six of his nine shot attempts, coming away with 13 points. He also had four rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes off the bench. It was the seventh game in 2025-26 that Nwaobi has had 10 or more points.
• Martin finished with 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor, while adding three rebounds, two steals, a blocked shot and an assist.
• Senior guard Ashton Atwater (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Valley/Ostego) collected nine points, two rebounds and an assist in a game-high 35 minutes on the court.
• Senior guard Jerry Abushanab (Glendale Heights, Ill./Oklahoma Panhandle State/Southwest Baptist/Link Prep) recorded five points, a team-best five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
• Senior forward Davion Lawrence (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley/Oak Lawn Community) posted four points, two rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
• Junior forward Marko Tojagic (Belgrade, Serbia/Saint Andrews) added four points, three rebounds, a block and a steal.

Saint Xavier (6-11, 4-6 CCAC) takes on Indiana University South Bend in CCAC competition at the Shannon Center on Wednesday, January 21. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
