Bafia Paces Saint Xavier in 94-50 win at Mount Mary

MILWAUKEE – Sophomore forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) recorded her team-leading fourth double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing a team-leading 10 rebounds (five offensive) in a 94-50 victory for Saint Xavier University women's basketball (11-5, 7-1 CCAC) over Mount Mary University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Wednesday evening in Milwaukee, Wis. Bafia added three assists, two blocked shots and a steal in just 22 minutes on the court. The Cougars scored a season-high in points while also coming away with a season-best 16 steals off of 25 Mount Mary turnovers, converting those steals into 34 points. SXU held its opponent under 60 points of the 10th time so far this season, sporting a 9-1 record in those contests.
  • Sophomore guard Makayla Kelly (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) netted a career-high 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting, and was 3-for-6 from three-point range. She added two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 15 minutes off the bench.
  • Sophomore guard Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) posted 12 points, making three of her seven three-point attempts, with a season-high tying five rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
  • Senior guard Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) also finished in double-figures, collecting 11 points. She also had two assists, two rebounds and a steal.
  • Junior guard Madyson Kibelkis (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) tallied eight points, tied her career-best with six rebounds, and an assist.
  • Freshman guard Julia Benjamin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) came away with seven points, three rebounds and a steal.
  • Sophomore guard Gianna Amadio (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) tied her career-high with five rebounds and she scored a season-best tying five points, along with two assists and a steal.
  • Senior guard Lia Chudzik (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) had a season-high four steals while adding four rebounds, three points and an assist.
Saint Xavier (11-5/7-1 CCAC) was scheduled to play Trinity Christian College (Ill.) at the Shannon Center on Saturday, January 10, however the Trolls forfeited the contest. SXU next takes on Holy Cross College (Ind.) in Notre Dame, Ind. on Wednesday, January 14. The game is set for a 4:30 pm central start.
