Jonaitis’ Goal the Difference in 1-0 Victory for SXU over VU

CHICAGO – Senior forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scored the game-winning goal in the fifth minute of play in a 1-0 triumph for the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (6-7-2/5-2-2 CCAC) over Viterbo University (Wis.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Saturday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. For Jonaitis, it was her fourth goal of the season and her second game-winning tally. She now has seven career game-winning goals, tied for the second most for the Cougars since 2007, along with Kelly Steinhaus (2007-10), when the record began being kept.
  • Senior goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) collected four saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season. The SXU defense allowed just nine shot attempts in the match.
  • Jonaitis finished with a team-leading four shot attempts with three on goal while playing the full time.
  • Junior forward Karly Harkness (Oak Lawn, Ill./Bethel/Downers Grove North) had two shot attempts, one on goal, and assisted on the lone tally in 88 minutes of play.
  • Junior forward Cami Butler (Tinley Park, Ill./Roosevelt/Lincoln-Way East) also logged two shot attempts while seeing 88 minutes of action.
  • Harkness had a shot go high over the crossbar in just the third minute. Two minutes later in the fifth minute, Harkness raced along the right side of the pitch and she sent a pass to Jonaitis who rocketed a shot past the keeper.
  • Dybas made consecutive saves in the 12th and 13th minutes.
  • In the 18th minute, Harkness had a shot on goal that was stopped by the V-Hawk defense for a team save.
  • Dybas was tested early in the second half, seeing five shot attempts in the first 10 minutes after halftime and making two more saves. The Saint Xavier defense only allowed one more shot attempt in the final 35 minutes, a header off of a corner kick in the 69th minute that went high.
Saint Xavier (6-7-2/5-2-2 CCAC) wraps up regular season competition with a CCAC match at Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Tuesday, October 27. The contest is set for a 6:00 pm central start in Notre Dame, Ind.
