th minute for the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (5-6-1/1-1-1 CCAC) in a 1-1 draw with University of St. Francis (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. Mahone headed in a pass from redshirt junior midfielder
Saul Lagunas (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) for his second goal of the season. The Cougars outshot the Fighting Saints 19-15 on the afternoon with Mahone coming away with a match-high seven shot attempts and five shots on goal in 83 minutes of play.
- Lagunas played the full time, earning his second assist of the year.
- Junior forward Americo Castaneda (Blue Island, Ill./Mount Carmel) tallied three shots on goal on three attempts in 72 minutes on the pitch.
- Senior midfielder/forward Yael Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Moraine Valley/Hubbard) had three shot attempts and one shot on goal while logging 90 minutes.
- Redshirt senior goalkeeper Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) collected four saves, moving his record to 3-6-1 in goal for SXU.
- Mahone had a shot on goal in just the second minute that was saved.
- Saint Xavier added three more shot attempts, one on goal by Castaneda, over the next seven minutes before USF took its first shot in the 10th minute.
- Martinez made three of his saves in the first half, and Saint Xavier had a 9-7 shot advantage, with the score even at 0-0 at halftime.
- St. Francis tallied the first goal of the match in the 50th minute on a shot from in front of the goal.
- A pass by Lagunas from the left side found Mahone, who streaked in front of the net to head in the equalizer.
- A flurry of action over the next two minutes saw two corner kicks by the Cougars, three shot attempts, and two saves eight seconds apart, with a shot by Castaneda that was stopped just before it had a chance to cross the goal line.
- Both teams had chances for the go-ahead goal in the final 10 minutes, but neither squad was able to net the winner.
Saint Xavier (5-6-1/1-1-1 CCAC) makes the trip to La Crosse, Wis. to take on Viterbo University (Wis) in a CCAC contest on Tuesday, October 6. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.
