Underclassmen Shine in 4-0 Victory for SXU on ‘Senior Day’

CHICAGO – Before the match, the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (3-5-2/2-0-2 CCAC) celebrated 'Senior Day', however it was freshman midfielder Kimberly Carrillo (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep) and sophomore midfielder Paige Swaw (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) who stole the spotlight in SXU's 4-0 triumph over Mount Mary University (Wis.) Saturday afternoon in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. Carrillo scored the game-winning goal, adding two assists, while Swaw recorded two goals in the conference win.

11 seniors were recognized in a pregame ceremony: goalkeeper Yajaira Daza-Mendoza (Chicago, Ill./Curie), midfielder Vanessa Diaz (Chicago, Ill./IHSCA), goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township), midfielder Alexzia Garcia (West Valley City, Utah/Northwest/RSL Academy), midfielder Gema Garibay (Chicago, Ill./Trinity Christian/South Suburban/SIUE/De La Salle), defender Pamela Hernandez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East), defender/midfielder Allison Ihms (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East), forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), goalkeeper Leslee Ordoñez (Des Plaines, Ill./Trinity Christian/Governors State/Maine West), defender Stephanie Quevedo (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) and midfielder Jazmin Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./Roosevelt/St. Laurence).
  • Carrillo finished with three shot attempts in 51 minutes off the bench.
  • Swaw collected eight shot attempts, with five on goal, in 79 minutes as a reserve.
  • Junior midfielder Keira Campbell (Tempe, Ariz./Yavapai/Corona del Sol) tallied a goal on a match-high 10 shot attempts with four shots on goal in 84 minutes on the pitch.
  • Junior forward Cami Butler (Tinley Park, Ill./Roosevelt/Lincoln-Way East) registered two assists with four shot attempts and two shots on goal in 76 minutes of playing time.
  • Garcia picked up her first assist of the season in 67 minutes of play.
  • Junior midfielder Camila Barragan (Chicago, Ill./Moraine Valley/Hope Academy) came away with her first assist of the year as well in 65 minutes.
  • Dybas made on save, as she and Daza-Mendoza combined for the second consecutive shutout for SXU.
  • Carrillo sent a shot in from the left side past the goalkeeper in the 26th minute after a tic-tack-toe pass from Butler to Barragan.
  • Campbell scored her third goal of the season on a header off a corner kick by Carrillo in the 59th minute.
  • Swaw put Saint Xavier up 3-0 in the 64th minute after she received a pass from Garcia from the right side.
  • In the 67th minute, Carrillo raced in from the left side, sending a pass to Butler, who connected with Swaw for her second tally of the match, and fourth of the year.
Saint Xavier (3-5-2/2-0-2 CCAC) travels to University Park, Ill. to play Governors State University (Ill.) in a CCAC contest on Wednesday, October 7. The match is set for a 3:00 pm start.
