CHICAGO – For the second week in a row, freshman wide receiver
Coen Demack (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bishop McNamara) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week for the Saint Xavier University football team (1-4/0-0 MSFA Midwest) when the awards were announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Demack caught 14 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns in SXU's 35-30 loss Saturday afternoon at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. He is the first player for the Cougars to win MSFA Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks since former NAIA All-American linebacker Joey Markasovic (2018-22) won Defensive Player of the Week on September 26 & October 3 in the 2022 season.
- Demack's 14 receptions tied for the third-most in single-game team history, and he was the sixth player to do so. His 14 catches are the most since former standout wide receiver Nick Czeszewski (2016-19) also caught 14 passes on November 2, 2019, at St. Ambrose University (Iowa). Greg Gerritsen (2003-06) holds the team record for receptions in a game with 17, coming on November 8, 2003 at Trinity International University (Ill.).
- Demack is the first player to win MSFA Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks since quarterback Justin Hunniford (2017-18) did so on October 1 and October 8 during the 2018 campaign.
- In five games so far this year, Demack leads SXU with 50 catches for 660 yards and nine touchdowns. His 132.0 receiving yards per game are currently the most in single-season team history (min. five games). Demack leads the MSFA Midwest League in receptions, receiving yards, yards per game and touchdowns.
- Nationally, he leads the NAIA in receptions per game with 10.0, is tied for No. 2 in total catches and touchdowns, No. 4 in receiving yards, and is No. 5 in yards per game.
Saint Xavier (1-4/0-0 MSFA Midwest) celebrates Homecoming on Saturday, October 10 when they take on Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) in their final MSFA crossover match-up. The game is set for a 12:00 pm kickoff at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
