Lansing, Mich. – Behind a season-high 14 steals and 11 made three-pointers, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (4-0/0-0 CCAC) came away with an 88-49 victory over Cleary University (Mich.) Thursday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Gannon Gymnasium in Lansing, Mich. The Cougars forced 20 turnovers in the game and scored 25 points off CU turnovers. SXU led the entire contest. Brooklynn Johnson (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) scored a game-high 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor, making three of four from beyond the arc, with two rebounds and two steals.
- Freshman guard Desiree Merritt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) tallied 14 points, making five of her eight shot attempts, along with three assists, two steals and a rebound.
- Sophomore forward Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) shot 4-for-6 from the field, scoring a season-best 10 points. She also had a team-high tying five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
- Junior forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) finished in double-figures as well, collecting 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting. She also had four rebounds and a team-high three steals.
- Junior guard Lillie Woodworth (Hamilton, Ill./Lincoln Land/Hamilton) recorded eight points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
- Sophomore guard Julia Benjamin (Hanover Park, Ill./Glenbard West) netted a season-high eight points, going 2-for-4 from deep, and grabbing a rebound.
- Junior guard Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) knocked down a pair of threes on four attempts, scoring six points, along with an assist and a rebound.
- Senior guard Madyson Kibelkis (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) registered five points, two rebounds and a steal.
- Freshman guard Laken LePage (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) posted three points, two rebounds and an assist.
- Junior guard Gianna Amadio (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) tied her career-high with five rebounds and she scored two points.
- Fifth-year senior Ariadna Kuc (Krakow, Poland/Eckerd/Highland/IGM Academy) logged two points and a rebound.
- Junior guard Makayla Kelly (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) handed out a career-best four assists, adding two steals and a rebound.
Saint Xavier (4-0/0-0 CCAC) starts Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) competition on Wednesday, November 11 when they play Indiana University Northwest. The game is set for a 5:00 pm start in Gary, Ind.
