Hayden Grange (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) collected three aces to give SXU a 7-0 lead to start the match and junior outside hitter
Caydann Cox (Helena, Mont./Jamestown/Jamestown) rattled off three consecutive service aces to close out the win, totaling five on the night. The Cougars continued their tough play at the net, coming away with 10.5 blocks (three solos, 15 assists), their third match in a row with 10 or more blocks.
- Cox led Saint Xavier with eight kills on a .368 attack percentage (8-1-19), along with an assist, a block and a dig.
- Grange had five kills on a .500 attack percentage (5-0-10) and three blocks.
- Senior middle blocker Tysen Myers (Apple Valley, Minn./Jamestown/Eastview) was perfect on seven attack attempts, logging a season-high seven kills. He also had five blocks (one solo).
- Graduate student opposite hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) came away with five kills, four digs, three blocks (one solo) and an assist.
- Junior setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) dished out a match-leading 25 assists with five digs, two aces, a block and a kill.
- Freshman outside hitter Owen Krause (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) collected five blocks (one solo), five kills and a pair of digs.
- Senior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) had two digs, an assist and a service ace.
- Freshman outside hitter Henry Truitt (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) chipped in two digs and an ace, while graduate student defensive specialist/libero Avery Chick (Newcastle, Wyo./Bethel/Campbellsville/Newcastle) added four digs.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (7-2/0-0 CCAC) begins Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) competition when they host Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) Tuesday, February 17 at the Shannon Center. The match is set for a 7:00 start.
