Jazmyn Casas (Berwyn, Ill./Illinois-Chicago/Taft) drove in four runs in a 13-0 victory Friday afternoon at the SXU Softball Field in Chicago, Ill. Casas collected six RBI, including a Grand Slam home run, in a 21-3 triumph in game one of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Glendale, Wis. It was the most runs in a game for SXU since they defeated Trinity International University (Ill.), 21-1, on April 4, 2013, and only the 11
th time in program history that they plated 20 or more runs in a game. Saint Xavier rapped out 20 hits, the fourth time that they have done so this year, and senior infielder
Mallory O'Connor (Bourbonnais, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Bishop McNamara) recorded six RBI to help Wesner, who threw a two-hit shutout in a 19-0 win in game two.
Game One:
- Casas went 2-for-2 overall with a run scored, a triple, a stolen base and a walk.
- Senior outfielder Haley Matlock (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) was 1-for-3 with three RBI, a run and a steal. She reached 100 career RBIs, becoming just the 21st player in program history to do so.
- Senior outfielder Fiona Crane (Evergreen Park, Ill./Northern Illinois/Mother McAuley) had three hits in three at-bats with three runs scored and three stolen bases.
- Junior infielder Aubrey Wroble (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) scored three runs as well with a steal while going 2-for-3.
- Wesner pitched 5.0 innings with a walk to move her record to 3-1 in the circle.
- Casas ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the 1st.
- The Cougars rallied for five runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Matlock sliced a two-run single, Casas laced a two-run triple, and O'Connor hit an RBI triple.
- Senior catcher Morgan Natanek (Palos Heights, Ill./Stagg) lifted a sacrifice fly and Matlock picked up an RBI off an error that allowed another run to score for a 10-0 advantage after three innings of play.
- In the bottom of the 4th, junior outfielder Jaelyn Wiers (Morris, Ill./Bethel/Kankakee/Morris) lined an RBI single, freshman outfielder Alex Tarala (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) had an RBI base hit, and a passed ball brought in another run for SXU.
Game Two:
- Casas had two hits in two trips to the plate, scoring three runs, and she was hit-by-pitch.
- Natanek was 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs scored, a double and a walk.
- Wroble went 2-for-3 with four RBI, a double, a run and a stolen base.
- Crane finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of steals.
- O'Connor belted her first home run of the season, going 1-for-1 with two walks and two RBI.
- Freshman infielder Sienna Antkiewicz (Dyer, Ind./Hanover Central) hit her first collegiate home run, finishing 2-for-2 with three RBI.
- Senior infielder Emily Bickett (Plainfield, Ill./South Suburban/Morton/Plainfield South) slugged her first home run as a Cougar, going 1-for-2.
- Junior outfielder Megan Kirnbauer (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) was 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and a walk.
- Sophomore pitcher Payton Antkiewicz (Dyer, Ind./Hanover Central) earned the win (11-3), tossing 3.0 no-hit innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
- Sophomore pitcher Kirsten Clodi (Bourbonnais, Ill./Condordia/Bishop McNamara) made her season debut, working 2.0 innings of relief and allowing five hits, three earned runs, two walks and recording a strikeout.
- SXU scored eight runs in the first inning. Wroble started the rally with an RBI bunt single, Casas hammered a two-run double, Natanek hit a two-run single and Wroble bookended the frame with a bases-clearing three-run double.
- Saint Xavier tacked on eight more runs in the top of the 2nd. O'Connor sent a two-run home run over the wall in left center, Natanek clubbed a two-run double, and Casas hit her team-leading sixth home run to right field.
- Junior outfielder Kadence Baccam (West Des Moines, Iowa/Lewis/Dowling Catholic) drove in a run with a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and Sienna Antkiewicz smacked a two-run single in the top of the 3rd.
- The Blue Angles got a run in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI infield single.
- Antkiewicz and Bickett homered for the Cougars in the top of the 5th.
- Mount Mary hit a two-run double before Clodi posted a ground out for end the game.
Game Three:
- O'Connor had four hits in five at-bats, scoring twice. She surpassed 200 career hits in the contest as she had 103 with Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) before joining the Cougars last season.
- Matlock went 2-for-3 with three RBI, three runs and a walk.
- Wroble collected four hits in four official at-bats with four runs scored, two RBI, two stolen bases, a triple and a walk.
- Crane was 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, two steals, a double and a walk.
- Natanek finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, a double, a run scored and a walk.
- Bickett scored twice with an RBI after going 1-for-2.
- Sophomore designated player Sadie Moussa (Chicago, Ill./Taft) came away with her first collegiate hit, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Sophomore outfielder Natalie Gomez (Oak Forest, Ill./Lewis/Tinley Park) finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs.
- Wesner (4-1) scattered two hits with eight strikeouts.
- SXU plated seven runs in the top of the 1st. Matlock hit an RBI single, O'Connor lined a two-run single, Moussa laced an RBI base hit, Crane hammered a two-run double and Wroble legged out an RBI infield single.
- Saint Xavier added six runs in the top of the 3rd. Matlock smacked a two-run single, O'Connor sliced a two-run single, and Natanek bashed a two-run double.
- Wrobel hit her first triple of the season to score Gomez, an error with two outs allowed two runs to score, and O'Connor hit an RBI single in the top of the 4th.
- Bickett clubbed an RBI base hit and O'Connor drove in her sixth run with an RBI single in the top of the 5th.
Saint Xavier (29-9/18-0 CCAC) travels to La Crosse, Wis. to play Viterbo University (Wis.) in a three-game CCAC series. Game one is on Tuesday, April 14 at 2:00 pm, and the series concludes with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15.
