th, and they left the tying runs stranded on the bases in the bottom half of the frame, coming away with a 6-4 victory over No. 2 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Tournament Thursday afternoon at Slammers Stadium in Joliet, Ill. Nick Krueger (Clifton, Ill./Danville Area/Clifton Central) picked up the win (4-1), throwing 3.0 innings of relief. The Cougars move on to the winner's bracket semifinals to play top-seeded St. Ambrose University (Iowa) on Friday, May 1.
- Corbett went 2-for-3 overall with a run scored and a walk.
- Orzech was 1-for-3 and he made 12 putouts with an assist from behind the plate.
- Sophomore outfielder Parker Violett (Maple Park, Ill./Kaneland) finished 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, a walk and a stolen base.
- Junior outfielder Ben Meier (Beechwood, Ky./Lincoln Trail/Beechwood) slugged his third home run of the season, going 1-for-4.
- Junior pitcher Cole Martz (Huntington, Ind./Kankakee/Huntington North) pitched 7.0 solid innings, allowing just four hits, two runs (one earned), a walk and striking out eight batters to settle for the no decision.
- Krueger had a final line score of 3.0 innings, four hits, two earned runs, a walk and five strikeouts.
- Violett belted a double with one out in the top of the 4th, back-to-back walks loaded the bases, and Orzech sent a line drive to left for a sac fly.
- An RBI double in the home half of the 4th tied the game at 1-1.
- A wild pitch scored a run and junior infielder John Simecek (Twinsburg, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) picked up his team-leading 41st RBI with a ground out to put SXU up 3-1 in the top of the 5th.
- The Tigers scored an unearned run off a Saint Xavier miscue in the bottom of the 5th.
- Meier sent a ball of the wall in right for a 4-2 advantage in the top of the 7th.
- A two-out, two-run triple tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th.
- Both teams went three-up, three-down in the 9th.
- In the top of the 10th, Violett drew a one-out walk and he stole second to fuel the rally.
No. 3 seed Saint Xavier (33-17/21-11 CCAC) takes on No. 1 St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in the CCAC Tournament winners' bracket semifinals on Friday, May 1. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
