No. 3 SXU Falls to No. 1 Park in NAIA Championship

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The No. 3 seeded Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (31-4/14-0 CCAC) finished as NAIA Men's Volleyball National runner-up for the second season in a row after a four-set defeat (26-24, 28-30, 22-25, 21-25) to No. 1 Park University (Mo.) Saturday evening at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After the match, junior outside hitter Caydann Cox (Helena, Mont./Jamestown/Jamestown) was named to the All-Tournament Team. Graduate student opposite hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) led the Cougars with 21 kills and 13 digs. It was the third time that SXU and Park have met at nationals with previous meetings in 2019 and 2022.
  • Pennala added an assist, a block and a service ace.
  • Cox posted 10 kills, four blocks, four digs, two aces and assist.
  • Junior setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) dished out 43 assists with eight digs, four service aces, three blocks and three kills.
  • Senior middle blocker Tysen Myers (Apple Valley, Minn./Jamestown/Eastview) tallied six blocks, six kills and a dig.
  • Junior opposite hitter/outside hitter Donte Jennings (Spokane Valley, Wash./Morningside/Jamestown/Central Valley) came away with five kills, four digs and two blocks.
  • Senior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) logged 10 digs, two aces and two assists.
  • Freshman middle blocker Hayden Grange (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) totaled three blocks, three kills and a dig.
  • Freshman outside hitter Henry Truitt (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) finished with two digs and a service ace, while freshman outside hitter Owen Krause (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) chipped in a dig.
