Balys Zamalaitis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) netted his first collegiate goal and senior defender/goalkeeper
Neil Soans (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) earned his first collegiate victory in goal, as well as his first career shutout, in his first start in net for the Cougars.
- Lagunas picked up his first points of the season in 72 minutes on the pitch.
- Junior forward Cristian Morales (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) led SXU with four shot attempts with two shots on goal. He recorded an assist on Lagunas' goal.
- Zamalaitis finished with two shot attempts in 68 minutes off the bench.
- Soans collected four saves, all coming in the first half, to help Saint Xavier post its second shutout of the 2026 campaign.
- The Cougars broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute when Morales found Lagunas on his left side, sending a pass that Lagunas headed in.
- Goshen held a 7-3 shot advantage at the break, and would outshoot SXU on the day, 14-9.
- The Maple Leafs were in search of the equalizing tally before a corner kick in the 81st minute off the boot of Lagunas found Zamalaitis in front of the net, who converted, to give Saint Xavier some insurance.
Saint Xavier (2-3/0-0 CCAC) hosts Cornerstone University (Mich.) at Deaton Field on Tuesday, September 8. The non-conference contest in set for a 7:00 pm first kick.
