• Tom O’Malley will coach his 23rd season at Saint Xavier in 2019-20, where he has amassed a career record as head coach of 507-230 (.688).

• Going into the 2019-20 season, O’Malley ranks 3rd among active coaches in NAIA Division II, with 507 victories.

• Under O’Malley’s watch, the Cougars have claimed three CCAC regular season championships (1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01), and four CCAC Tournament titles (2001, 2003, 2010, 2014).

• The Cougars have qualified for the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship 12 times in the O’Malley era, reaching as far as the national quarterfinal in 2005.

• From 1997-2008, Saint Xavier achieved 11 straight 20-win seasons. The Cougars have won at least 20 games in 16 of O’Malley’s 22 seasons on the SXU bench.

• In 2000-01, O’Malley’s Cougars set the program record with 30 victories, and has since matched that total twice, in 2004-05 and 2013-14.

• On December 21, 2011, O’Malley became Saint Xavier’s all-time winningest head men’s basketball coach, defeating Siena Heights (Mich.) 73-70 to earn his 351st career victory.

• The 85-73 win at Holy Cross (Ind.) on November 14, 2018 was O’Malley’s 500th career win at Saint Xavier.

• During his time at Saint Xavier, O’Malley has coached a total of 71 All-CCAC Team recipients, and 20 NAIA All-Americans. Six of O’Malley’s former players have been inducted into the Saint Xavier Athletics Hall of Fame.

• Before joining the Saint Xavier athletic staff in 1997, O’Malley had previously coached at his alma mater Leo High School in Chicago, Ill., along with Reavis High School in Burbank, Ill., and and Evergreen Park High School in Evergreen Park, Ill.

• Including his high school coaching career, O’Malley’s overall win total now stands at 981.

• O’Malley is a 2011 inductee into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, and has also been inducted into the CCAC Hall of Fame, Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame, Leo High School Hall of Fame, Chicago Catholic League Hall of Fame, and the Chicago 16-inch Softball Hall of Fame.

• O’Malley is a 1959 graduate of Leo High School and attended Loras College (Iowa) where he earned a degree in Economics in 1963. He received his master’s degree in Education and Administration from Loyola University (Ill.) and compiled over 60 hours of post-graduate work.

• O’Malley has been married for over 50 years to his wife, Carol, and has three childen; Tom, Mike, and Carrie. He also has 13 grandchildren: Courtney, Molly, Shea, Ryan, Tara, Brennan, Anne Catherine, Megan Eileen, Matthew, Nolan, Aidan, Brendan, and Daniel.
