• Bob Heersema begins his 37th season as Head Coach of the Saint Xavier women’s volleyball program in 2024, where he has recorded a career record of 804-655 (.551).
• Heersema recorded his 800th career victory on Sept. 26, 2023, with a five-set victory at St. Ambrose (Iowa).
• Heersema recorded his 700th career victory on Sept. 29, 2018, with a straight-set victory over No. 18 Georgetown (Ky.).
• Heersema ranks third on the NAIA’s win list among active women’s volleyball head coaches.
• Heersema has guided the Cougars to five CCAC Tournament championships, and shares of 10 CCAC regular season titles (1997, 1998, 2000, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022).
• In 2017, Saint Xavier won its first-ever NAIA tournament match, with a four-set win over Union (Ky.).
• Overall, Saint Xavier has advanced to the NAIA tournament, four times (2000, 2017, 2018, 2022).
• The Cougars have made seven NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship appearances under Heersema’s tenure (2000, 2010, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022).
• Heersema has coached 11 NAIA All-Americans during his time at Saint Xavier. A total of 99 All-CCAC Team awards have been earned by the SXU women’s volleyball program since Heersema took over in 1988.
• Prior to joining the Saint Xavier coaching staff, Heersema served as an assistant coach at South Suburban College (Ill.) from 1984-85, and was head coach at Andrean High School in Merrillville, Ind. for the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
• Heersema is a graduate of the University of Illinois-Chicago (’86) with a degree in Physical Education.
• Heersema was a setter and middle blocker for three seasons on the club team at Illinois-Chicago.
• Heersema currently resides in Oak Forest, Ill., and continued to play in the USVA Men’s Age Group.
