Lopuch & Krzyzak Power No. 12 SXU Past TCC, 3-1

CHICAGO – Freshman outside hitter Jan Lopuch (Krakow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Sportowe) finished with a match-high 16 kills on a thanks to a .452 attack percentage (16-2-31) and fellow freshman opposite hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Rzeszow, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszow) tallied 13 kills to help guide No. 12 Saint Xavier University men's volleyball (2-1/1-0 CCAC) to a four-set victory (25-13, 25-17, 18-25, 25-22) over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener for both teams Tuesday evening at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. The duo, both natives of Poland, each posted five service aces. Lopuch recorded an attack percentage of .452 (16-2-31) and added five digs, an assist and a solo block, while Krzyzak collected five blocks and a pair of digs.

  • Senior setter Noah Randall (Plainfield, Ill./Quincy/Plainfield Central) came away with an early season-high of 44 assists with six digs and a kill.
  • Senior middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) had a solid effort with nine kills on a .667 attack percentage (9-1-12) and had a block assist.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Kegan Olig (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) also had nine digs for the Cougars.
  • Freshman libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) registered a match-best 18 digs and had an assist.
  • Junior middle blocker John Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) added four blocks and a pair of digs.
  • The five aces from Lopuch and Krzyzak tied for No. 4 for the most aces in four sets in single-match history for SXU. Former NAIA All-American Joe Lock (2022) set the record last season with seven service aces in a four-set win vs. Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) on February 19, 2022.

No. 12 Saint Xavier (2-1/1-0 CCAC) makes the short trip to Whiting, Ind. to face Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Thursday, February 2. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm first serve.
