CHICAGO – Senior midfielder
Andy Lomeli (Dyer, Ind./Roosevelt/Valparaiso/Lake Central) scored the game-winning goal and graduate student goalkeeper
Andres Zamora (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) made six saves to post his fifth shutout of the year to help the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (7-3-4, 5-2 CCAC) defeat Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 1-0, in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Tuesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. The win allows SXU to keep pace with ONU in the CCAC standings as the Tigers are just four points ahead of the Cougars for first place (19-15).
- Lomeli recorded a team-best five shot attempts and had four of the teams five shots on goal.
- Sophomore midfielder Omar Aparicio (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep) tallied a pair of shot attempts and he added a shot on goal in 85 minutes of action.
- The Saint Xavier defense didn't allow a shot to reach Zamora until the 31st minute when he made his first save. He totaled four saves in the first half.
- A foul in the 18-yard box allowed Lomeli to line up a penalty kick attempt in the 43rd minute. He converted on his attempt and now is 2-for-2 on penalty kick attempts this season.
- Zamora made saves in the 72nd and 80th minutes, respectively, in the second half and his defense would hold in the final twenty minutes. They would limit Olivet Nazarene to three shot attempts during that stretch, with two of them going wide right and the third was blocked by the SXU defense.
Saint Xavier (7-3-4/5-2 CCAC) travels to Notre Dame, Ind. to take on Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Saturday, October 14. The match is scheduled for a 1:30 pm central start.
