CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University Esports Valorant team capped its first season in Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC) play by going undefeated in nine matches and 9-1 on the season to win the GLEC Regular Season Championship. The Cougars wrapped up the league title with a 2-0 victory over Trine University (Ind.) Saturday afternoon. SXU featured a lineup this season of 'Ray' freshman

Sebastian Szuba (Justice, Ill./Moraine Valley/Argo Community). The Valorant crew now advances to the eight-team GLEC Championship Tournament that takes place on November 3-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
The other four teams for Saint Xavier, Rocket League, Overwatch, League of Legends & Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SSBU) were also in action over the last two weeks.
Rocket League:
- The Rocket League lineup of 'Orc' senior Peyton Benes (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), 'IamDJ6' freshman Gabriel Krueger (Bolingbrook, Ill./Homeschool) and 'Toast' sophomore Marcos Nunez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) took on Michigan Tech University on October 16, but suffered a 3-0 setback in their lone competition.
Overwatch:
- The Overwatch team featured the five-person lineup of 'alphabet' sophomore William Barquero Roma (Miami, Fla./Archimedean Upper Conservatory), 'Monkey' junior Jonathan Cosgrove (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), 'Citronboss27' sophomore Michael Guzaitis (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) and 'Glocktopus' senior Michael Hamm (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence).
- The Cougars defeated University of Mississippi, 3-0, in their best-of-five matchup on October 10.
- SXU lost to Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.) by a score of 3-0 on Friday, October 13 and was tripped up by Edgewood College (Wis.), 3-0, on October 16.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate:
- The four-person lineup for SSBU for Saint Xavier featured 'Blokit' sophomore Francisco Cayetano-Perez (Chicago, Ill./Curie), 'B-Bop' sophomore Brian Dykstra (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), 'Frieren' freshman Melissa Rios Medina (Mount Prospect, Ill./Hersey) and 'Immersed' sophomore Javier Rodriguez (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep).
- The team fell to Valparaiso University (Ind.) 2-0 in their best-of-three match on October 12 in GLEC action
- They lost a GLEC contest to Alma College (Mich.) on October 13 by a 2-1 margin.
- The Cougars were defeated by Bethel University (Ind.) in GLEC play 2-0 on October 17.
Valorant:
- SXU took down Defiance College (Ohio) 2-0 in a GLEC matchup on Monday, October 9.
- Saint Xavier was victorious over Alma on Wednesday, October 18 in GLEC play, coming away with a 2-0 win in the best-of-three match.
League of Legends:
- The League of Legends team sported a lineup of 'Moochi' junior Xavier Bryant (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic), 'MICKEYMOUSE' senior Josh Lagrosa (Orland Park, Ill./Shepard), 'dmshadow' senior Daniel Mendez (Chicago, Ill./Daley/Spry Community Links), 'SomethingCool' sophomore Ahmed Osman (Chicago, Ill./Illinois-Chicago/Park House) and 'WHAT U GOT' junior Armend Shabani (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg).
- The Cougars lost to Manchester University (Ind.), 2-0, in GLEC competition on Monday, October 9.
- SXU went on the road to face Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in a GLEC matchup and swept the best-of-three contest on October 19.
- They returned to action the next night on Friday, October 20, and earned a 2-0 victory over Marietta College (Ohio) in GLEC play.
Saint Xavier (25-27, 15-9 GLEC) will have League of Legends take on Bethel in GLEC play on Thursday, October 26, with the match starting at 7:00 pm.
