Saint Xavier Battles Judson to 2-2 Draw on ‘Senior Night’

CHICAGO – On a night that the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (7-3-4, 5-3-2 CCAC) honored a pair of seniors; goalkeeper Dayanna Gonzalez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) & midfielder/defender Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant), it was Junior midfielder/forward Louisa Schreiber (Bonndorf, Germany/Morton/Hans-Thoma-Schule) who led the Cougars with a pair of goals in a 2-2 draw with Judson University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action on a misty Wednesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. Schreiber scored her team-leading eighth and ninth goals of the season, while freshman goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made six saves for the Cougars. Prior to the match, Gonzalez and Ocampo were recognized with a 'Senior Night' ceremony.
  • Both teams finished the match with 15 shot attempts and the Eagles had eight shots on goal to SXU's six.
  • Schreiber finished with a team-high tying four shot attempts along with a team-leading three shots on goal.
  • Sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) also had four shot attempts and added one shot on goal while playing the full 90 minutes.
  • Freshman forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) recorded two shot attempts, a shot on goal and her team-leading sixth assist of the year.
  • Ocampo came away with two shot attempts in 76 minutes of action.
  • Judson broke the scoreless tie in the 38th minute after a rush and a shot from the left side that got past Dybas.
  • Schreiber squared the match in the 42nd minute off of a pass from junior defender/midfielder Gina Paparelli (Midlothian, Ill./Tinley Park). For Paparelli, it was her first collegiate assist after splitting time over the past two seasons between defense and goalkeeping duties.
  • Jonaitis intercepted a pass in the opening minutes of the second half and found Schreiber racing down the far sideline and she buried her team-leading ninth goal into the upper left corner in the 47th minute.
  • JU tallied the equalizer in the 70th minute after a scrabble in front of the net.
Saint Xavier (7-3-4/5-3-2 CCAC) concludes the regular season portion of their schedule when they take on Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a CCAC matchup on Saturday, October 28 at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. The match is set for a 12:00 pm kickoff.
