Saint Xavier Women’s Soccer Falls to St. Francis, 2-1

Joliet, Ill. – Sophomore midfielder Hailey Henry (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah Community) tallied her first goal of the season, however the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (4-2-3, 2-2-1 CCAC) lost 2-1 to University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Saturday afternoon at Joliet Memorial Field in Joliet, Ill. Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) posted a game-high six saves, four coming in the second half, for the Cougars and now has 27 stops on the season.
  • The Fighting Saints controlled the pace of the match, outshooting the Cougars 26-9, though they only had eight shots on goal to SXU's four.
  • Junior midfielder/forward Louisa Schreiber (Bonndorf, Germany/Morton/Hans-Thoma-Schule) led the Saint Xavier attack with three shot attempts, and she had two shots on goal in 45 minutes.
  • Freshman forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) had two shot attempts in 64 minutes on the pitch.
  • USF scored in the 43rd minute just before halftime to hold the lead at the break.
  • In the 72nd minute, sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) sent a corner kick in and Henry corralled the pass and sent a shot past the goalkeeper to square the match at 1-1. It was Davila's first assist of the year.
  • St. Francis scored the winning goal in the 84th minute when a header hit the crossbar and the rebound was knocked in.
Saint Xavier (4-2-3/2-2-1 CCAC) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field for the first time in almost a month when the take on No. 18 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Wednesday, October 11. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
