Joliet, Ill. – Sophomore guard
Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) scored a career-high 26 points on 10-for-14 shooting (71.4 percent), including an efficient 6-for-10 from three-point range, however Saint Xavier University women's basketball (1-3, 0-0 CCAC) fell to University of Saint Francis (Ind.) 91-72 in the Catholic Classic hosted by University of St. Francis (Ill.) Saturday afternoon at the Sullivan Center in Joliet, Ill. Green also tied her career-high with six assists and she grabbed a pair of rebounds in 36 minutes on the court.
- Junior guard Jenna Hernandez (Homer Glen, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) also set a new career-best in scoring for the Cougars as she finished with 16 points after going 5-for-10 from the field and 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. She added an assist and a rebound in 22 minutes off the bench.
- Sophomore center Eleanor Harris (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) recorded 12 points on 5-for-10 shooting with four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
- Junior forward Alyssa Crenshaw (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) came away with seven points, four rebounds, a block and a steal.
- Senior guard Bethany Baldwin (Watersmeet, Mich./Finlandia/Triton/Watersmeet) chipped in six points, a team-high five rebounds, an assist and a block in 12 minutes of action off the bench.
- Junior guard Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) posted six assists for the second straight game, and she added two points, two steals and a rebound.
- USF took an early 5-0 lead in the opening minutes, but SXU responded with a 9-4 run to tie the game, 9-9, after a basket by Crenshaw off an assist from Derrell at the 4:38 mark. Green knocked down a three the next time down the court to give the 'Red Cougars' a 12-11 lead and she hit another trey two possessions later on a pass from Harris to put Saint Xavier ahead 15-12 with 2:48 left in the frame. The 'Blue Cougars' closed out the first quarter on a 9-0 run to hold a 24-15 advantage. Saint Francis maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way to come away with the victory.
- SXU sank a season-high 13 three-point field goals on the afternoon and was a season-best 41.9 percent (13-for-31) from deep. It was the most threes in a game for the Cougars since they made 13-of-30 treys at home against Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Quarterfinals on February 22, 2022.
Saint Xavier (1-3/0-0 CCAC) travels to Winona Lake, Ind. to play Grace College (Ind.) on Tuesday, November 14 in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 pm central start.
