Winona Lake, Ind. – Sophomore guard
Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) recorded a team-high 17 points along with three rebounds, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot for the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (1-4, 0-0 CCAC) in a 72-65 setback to Grace College (Ind.) in non-conference action Tuesday evening in Winona Lake, Ind. Green shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field and was 1-for-3 (33.3 percent) from three-point range while playing the full 40 minutes.
- Junior guard Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) scored a season-best 14 points and sank four threes (4-for-12). She added three assists, three rebounds and a steal in just over 28 minutes of playing time.
- Senior guard Bethany Baldwin (Watersmeet, Mich./Finlandia/Triton/Watersmeet) also came away with a season-high in points with 13 in 23 minutes off the bench. She also had three steals, an assist and a rebound.
- Sophomore center Eleanor Harris (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) tallied eight points, a team-high four blocks, four rebounds and three assists.
- Junior guard Hayley Macdonald (Canberra, Australia/Williston State/Lake Ginninderra) collected seven points and team-bests in rebounds (six) and steals (four). She also had a pair of assists in 31 minutes on the court.
- Green came away with steals on back-to-back possessions and knocked down a pair of jumpers to give SXU an early 6-2 lead. The Lancers tied the game before Saint Xavier went up 11-6 after a three by Derrell on assist from Green midway through the opening quarter. Green gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game, 23-12, on a fast break lay-up. However, GC closes out the period on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 23-21 and the end of the frame.
- Harris slowed the run with a jumper off an assist from Macdonald at the 9:10 mark of the second quarter. Grace controlled the boards in the second period, out-rebounding SXU 14-5 and carried a 43-38 advantage at the break. Baldwin was tough of the bench scoring eight points on 4-for-5 shooting in just five minutes.
- Saint Xavier shot 25.0 percent (4-for-16) in the third quarter and the Lancers extended their lead to 59-49 with 10 minutes left in regulation. GC went up by 19 points, 68-49, with 6:55 to go in the fourth period. The Cougars rallied with a 17-2 run down the stretch, but the rally would fall short.
Saint Xavier (1-4/0-0 CCAC) begins Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play when they travel to Bourbonnais, Ill. to face Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Tuesday, November 21. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 pm tipoff.
