Bourbonnais, Ill. – Senior guard
Cedric Johnson (Bellevue, Neb./Sioux Falls/Nebraska-Kearney/Bellevue West) scored a game-high 20 points on 9-for-14 shooting (64.2 percent) along with four rebounds and an assist, however the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (1-4, 0-1 CCAC) lost to No. 15 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) to begin Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) competition Tuesday evening at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill. It was the fourth time in five games that Johnson has scored 20 or more points for the Cougars, and he is averaging 21.6 points per game to begin the season.
- Junior forward Andre Brandon (Coralville, Iowa/Sauk Valley/Iowa City Liberty) was 6-for-9 from the field (66.7 percent) with 15 points, three steals and three rebounds.
- Junior guard Sando Hill (Vanoss, Okla./Lyon/Seminole State/Vanoss) also finished in double figures with 11 points. He added a team-best four assists with three rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Freshman forward James Stevenson (Sun River Terrace, Ill./Momence), making his first collegiate start, made four of his six shot attempts to collect eight points. He also had four rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot.
- Johnson scored 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting as he played all 20 minutes of the first half. Brandon added 10 points and two steals in 16 minutes as SXU trailed 47-33 at halftime as the Tigers shot 66.7 percent (20-for-30).
- Hill collected eight points and handed out all four of his assists in the second half. Junior guard Trey Ward (Chicago Ridge, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) was 2-for-2 from beyond the arc in 17 minutes of the bench in the frame. He finished with seven points, three assists and three steals in 30 minutes of action.
Saint Xavier (1-4, 0-1 CCAC) hosts Judson University (Ill.) in a CCAC contest at the Shannon Center on Wednesday, November 29. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
