CHICAGO – Senior guard Cedric Johnson (Bellevue, Neb./Sioux Falls/Nebraska-Kearney/Bellevue West) poured in a team-high 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting (66.7 percent) and junior forward Andre Brandon (Coralville, Iowa/Sauk Valley/Iowa City Liberty) went 5-for-10 from beyond the arc and he finished with 18 points to help lead Saint Xavier University men's basketball (2-4, 1-1 CCAC) to an 84-64 victory over Judson University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Wednesday evening at the Shannon Center on Bob Hallberg Court in Chicago, Ill. Johnson added eight rebounds, a season-best six assists and two steals, while Brandon went 6-for-12 from the field overall with nine rebounds, three steals and an assist.
  • Freshman guard Jordan Streeter (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) tallied a career-high 13 points, along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Junior guard Sando Hill (Vanoss, Okla./Lyon/Seminole State/Vanoss) shot at an 83.3 percent clip (5-for-6), finishing with 12 points, a rebound and a steal.
  • The Cougars posted season-highs in points (84), three-point field goals made and attempted (13-for-35), free throws made (15-for-18), assists (15) and steals).
  • Streeter knocked down a three off an assist from Johnson just under three minutes into the half to give SXU a 9-0 lead. They built their largest lead of the frame, 30-14, after a trey by Brandon off a pass from Streeter at the 7:04 mark. Both Brandon and Johnson registered nine points in the first 20 minutes, with Brandon hauling in eight rebounds. Hill made all three of his shot attempts, including a pair of three-pointers to post eight points for a 37-26 halftime advantage.
  • Brandon hit a basket after a pump fake and converted the and-one for an 'Old-Fashioned' three-point play to push the lead to 47-28 with 17:27 left in regulation. The Eagles responded with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to cut the deficit to 47-40 after a layup with 14:11 to play. It would be the closest they would get as Saint Xavier went on a 15-2 run of its own, capped by a Brandon three off an assist from Johnson midway through the half to build its largest lead of the game, 62-42. Johnson was 4-for-5 in the half with 11 points and six rebounds, Brandon collected nine points and Streeter chipped in eight points in the conference win.
Saint Xavier (2-4, 1-1 CCAC) makes its way to University Park, Ill. to take on Governors State University (Ill.) on Saturday, December 2 in a CCAC matchup. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
