Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) tied her career-high with six saves and recorded her fifth shutout of the season and freshman forward
Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) tallied the lone goal as the No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (8-3-5/5-3-3 CCAC) defeated No. 4 University of St. Francis (Ill.) 1-0 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Quarterfinals Friday evening at Joliet Memorial Field in Joliet, Ill. It is the first time since 2008 that the Cougars have advanced past the CCAC quarterfinals, when they won the tournament championship that season.
- Jonaitis registered half of the team's shot attempts with three and had three of SXU's five shots on goal in her 90 minutes on the pitch.
- Sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) and senior defender/midfielder Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant) each had a shot on goal, respectively.
- The Fighting Saints controlled the pace in the first half with seven shot attempts and three corner kicks. Dybas made one save in the frame and Jonaitis had two shots on goal
- Jonaitis scored her seventh goal of the year just :28 into the second half. It was her team-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season, the most by a Cougars since former standout Nancy Schueth (2008-10,12) also had four during the 2010 campaign.
- USF outshot Saint Xavier over the next 20 minutes, 5-2, with Dybas collecting three saves. SXU had a scoring opportunity in the 67th minute when Jonaitis sent in a corner kick and was headed by junior forward Esmeralda Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy), however her shot attempt went high.
- Dybas made saves in the 70th and 85th minutes, respectively, while the Cougar defenders kept the St. Francis attack at bay down the stretch to secure the win.
No. 5 seed Saint Xavier (8-3-5/5-3-3 CCAC) advances to the CCAC Tournament Semifinals and will take on No. 1 St. Ambrose University on Tuesday, November 7.
