Crenshaw Tough; SXU Falls to GSU, 65-50

University Park, Ill. – Junior forward Alyssa Crenshaw (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown) scored a game-high 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting, however the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (3-5, 2-1 CCAC) suffered its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) defeat Saturday afternoon, losing to Governors State University (Ill.) by a 65-50 margin in University Park, Ill. Crenshaw also pulled eight rebounds with a season-best four steals and an assist. SXU came away with a season-best 52 rebounds and senior guard Bethany Baldwin (Watersmeet, Mich./Finlandia/Triton/Watersmeet) posted a season-high nine rebounds along with seven points, three assists and a steal.
  • Sophomore center Eleanor Harris (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) collected six points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.
  • Sophomore guard Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) tallied six points, two assists, a rebound and a steal.
  • Junior guard Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) chipped in five assists, five rebounds, a pair of steals and a point.
  • Saint Xavier trailed 21-7 after the first quarter as they shot 3-for-15 from the field (20.0 percent). Baldwin recorded four points (2-for-4) and two rebounds in seven minutes of action in the frame. The Cougar defense responded in the second period as they held the Jaguars to eight points on 4-for-16 shooting (25.0 percent). Crenshaw scored half of SXU's points with six in the quarter, and they trailed 28-19 at halftime.
  • Crenshaw tallied nine points in the third period, making 3-of-4 attempts, but Saint Xavier was behind 46-31 heading into the final frame. Harris collected five of her six points in the fourth quarter, while Crenshaw and Green each had four points, respectively. For the game, SXU outshot GSU 35.1 percent (20-for-57) to 33.1 percent (21-for-62), but Governors State was better from the foul line as they made 18-of-20 attempts (90.0 percent) to the Cougars' 9-for-20 shooting (45.0 percent).
Saint Xavier (3-5/2-1 CCAC) makes the short trip to Palos Heights, Ill. to play Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in CCAC action on Saturday, December 9. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm tipoff.
